100th Post and my first Giveaway!!!

*This giveaway is now closed*

This is my 100th post and, to celebrate, I'm hosting my first giveaway! I'm thrilled to finally have the chance to give something away - even though it may not be tickets to Rome or a sparkling new Kitchen Aid mixer. This blog doesn't really have a budget, or any sponsors, so I went out this week and purchased a fun little gift for one of you to use at your next dinner party - Janet Fletcher's Cheese Tasting Party Kit!

I fell in love with this handsome little kit the moment I saw it and knew it would make a perfect gift for one of my readers. It's food and travel-related, and promises a fun and exciting new dining experience  - one of the things I'm always pursuing as I write The Traveling Spoon.

The kit was authored by Janet Fletcher, a food columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, and consists of 50 handsomely-photographed 'cheese profile cards,' 50 blank identification labels with toothpicks, and a fold-out information card with a glossary of terms and tips for buying, storing and pairing your cheeses. The label cards are adorable and the profiles contain a wealth of information on each cheese, including milk type, character, history, origin, wine pairings, food accompaniments and recommended brands. If you've never had the chance to attend a dedicated cheese party (and even if you have) this kit will guide you through the experience.

Well, now that you know about the prize, there are a few ways to enter:
1) Leave a comment below - you can write anything, but if you're interested in being theme-y, tell us about your favorite cheese!

2) 'Follow' The Traveling Spoon using the Google Friend Connect button on the right-hand side or the 'Follow' tab on the menu at the top of the page. You could follow anonymously, but that would make it very hard for me to notify you if you win, so make sure your name shows up as a follower! Then leave a comment to let me know about your additional entry. If you're already a follower, leave a comment with a reminder so I can give you credit for two entires! EDIT: You must leave a comment after following to be eligible to enter!!!

3) 'Like' The Traveling Spoon on Facebook. This is the overachiever's option: I haven't got around to adding a 'Like' button to the blog so this one will require a bit of extra effort since you'll have to search for The Traveling Spoon's Facebook page.

4) Post about this giveaway elsewhere online and leave a comment letting me know you've done so.

Now for the nitty, gritty details:
The Rules:
*You can use any or all of these methods to enter - you'll get one entry for each method you use (be sure to leave a comment so I know to give you credit for each!)
*Unfortunately, this giveaway is for residents of the United States only (to include those with access to APO/FPO addresses). I still love and appreciate all my international readers, but I'm not able to cover international shipping at the moment.
*This giveaway will end at 12:00 CST, on 28 July, 2011. The winner will be selected using a random number generator. I'll notify the winner after the giveaway closes and share the result in a post on this blog once the prize has been claimed. The winner will have 72 hours from the time of notification to claim their prize, or another winner will be selected.

I think that's everything! Since this is my first giveaway, I'm just hoping everything goes smoothly. I can't wait to see who wins!

  1. Hey Rachel,
Yay, your first giveaway and 100th post, congrats! I already follow you on Google Friend Connect, just liked your FB page and I am leaving this comment. I love cheese and I need to have a party - this would be the perfect excuse to buy some Stilton, cheddar and champagne. Thanks!

  2. Congratulations on your 100th post, Rachel.
Among the easy-to-find cheeses, without having to travel to a foreign country, I think I would say Gorgonzola, St. Andre, Brie, Port Salut are a few of my favorites. I LOVE cheese.

  3. I think that the best cheese I have ever had I tried was in Ludington, Michigan, an Herb Havarti. But I like many kinds of cheeses. Thank you for sharing!

  9. Rache,
I love what you are doing and have been following you since the beginning of time:) You know I love cheese, you should see the dimples in my knees. I haven't met a cheese I didn't like, but anything blue is probably a favourite.
