Root Beer Fruit Dip

Okay, so this isn't really a recipe as much as an idea - but one that's incredibly tasty and worth trying!

Plain yogurt is one of my kitchen staples, and there are times when its cooly acidic flavor is just what I'm craving, but sometimes it's just so...plain. I'm always trying to come up ways to liven and dress it up a bit, and making last week's Root Beer Float Fudge gave me a new idea.

Stirring a bit of root beer extract and a small amount of sweetener into the yogurt made an exciting treat, but the real revelation occurred when I paired it with some fresh strawberries. The mouth-tingling flavor of root beer is a great complement to the candy-like sweetness of strawberries. Since then, I've been toying with all sorts of root-beer-and-strawberry combinations (root beer dipped strawberries, made with white chocolate chips, for example, or a root beer flavored, cream-cheese-based fruit dip) but for now, this is a good place to start.

Root Beer Yogurt Fruit Dip
1-2 cups plain yogurt
1-2 teaspoons root beer extract (to taste)
Sugar or sweetener to taste

Mix together, tasting liberally to achieve a flavor you like. Serve with fresh strawberries and marvel at the delicious simplicity!

  1. Ooo... I've done this with brown sugar, but never root beer extract. Cool idea! Would be great with Greek yogurt (extra protein!!).
